We’ve learned something during HIS last Holy Day called Yom Kippur/Day of Atonement. As time goes on we learn more each day. In the beginning of our journey we just took the day off to be compliant to HIS commands. The next year we studied more and took the day off and Fasted as commanded. As time has gone on, we study even more and learn even more. The Fast isn’t about compliance and it isn’t about us. It’s about HIM. It’s about reflection. It’s about giving up every…thing for one short evening to evening and just humbling ourselves to HIM. We aren’t blasting through a megaphone what we are doing. Most people don’t even know we do it, but we do. HE knows we do it and every year HE shows us more and more. This year was especially special.
Many things came into play to the point that the owner of where I work acknowledged the day and allowed me to miss the 2nd part of a two-day mandatory meeting. The owner also texted me to tell me that what is important to my family is important to his. My owner of where I work is Catholic and I did tell him that this day is not Jewish but for all of YHVH‘s (God’s) people; seeds planted. The important thing is that YHVH (God) gave me an avenue to celebrate HIM the way HE commands and that avenue was through an employer that accepted my request. They even cut the meeting I was in a bit short that day so I could go home and eat before the Fast. This meeting included about 16 people and everyone was let out early on the eve of Yom Kippur so I could get home and eat before sundown.
So this is where my thought process wandered during the Fast. As a child I was taught about Christmas and other pagan celebrations that were supposedly for HIM. As a young child I looked forward to those times and getting presents. As I grew into my late single digits I was taught that Christmas and Easter were about Jesus. As I grew older into my late 30’s I was taught that Christmas and Easter were actually pagan celebrations. As I grew older into my late 30’s and early 40’s I studied to learn that Christmas and Easter were not commanded and actually had roots from ancient pagan religions. As time has gone on, I’ve learned to weed through the lies and find the Truth; it HAS set me and my family free. It is sort of like the verse that says to get off the milk and on the meat. As a child I was taught nothing about the Holy Days. As I grew older I was never taught about the Holy Days except that they were Jewish. As I grew even older, I found that the Holy Days weren’t Jewish and were not just for the Jews. Just as I grew away from Christmas/Easter and other pagan celebrations, I’ve grown towards HIM. Every year HE continues to show me why I made the right decision. When we are young we don’t know but as we grow older it’s our duty to find the TRUTH; it will set you free. None of HIS Holy Days are about what it means to us, they are about what they mean to HIM.
